Do you 💩 on vacation? What about a nervous bel Do you 💩 on vacation?
What about a nervous belly?
How about a little extra bloating when you're stressed, or anxious, or running away from a bear?
What about missing your appetite cues?

Want to know why raw, cold salads and burnout might not be the best combination for recovery?

I interrupt my vacation to send you a very important message - THERE'S A NEW EPISODE OF THE SUPERWOMAN CODE and it's all about how your gut changes when you're burnt out.

Burnout isn't just brain fog, irritation and feeling blah - it also had a direct effect on your gut.

Episode 119 (yay!) focuses on what you need to know about your gut and burnout. And there's 4 very important things I highlight. One is why I don't love salads in the burnout conversation... any idea about 2, 3 and 4? Don't worry, I've got you covered - it's all in episode 119 and the shownotes of your favourite podcast platform.

HUGE thanks to our partner on The Superwoman Code Podcast for the month of May, @bendbeauty . I'm thrilled to get to elevate this conversation with you!
As Burnout gets deeper and deeper, more and more o As Burnout gets deeper and deeper, more and more of these symptoms can present, but not necessarily in this order.

Think of Burnout like an umbrella. Each of these symptoms can show up differently for different people, or within different environments (like at different parts of your menstrual cycle, or post menopausally). Higher stress situations can eccaberate symptoms, and then all of a sudden they go away.

It's frustrating.

I talked with one of my patients today about the difference between self-awareness and action capacity. So many of us are getting so good at being aware of ourselves and what's going on, but I believe the next step is looking at our action capacity. You know... the way we actually start to change some of these things.

The starting points?

Three of your four Cornerstones;
Sleep
Movement
Fueling

(Self Awareness is the fourth... FYI)

Move to take action on one of those. What's that look like in your environment?

Can't make a decision? Burnout has a funny way o Can't make a decision?

Burnout has a funny way of making you really good at coming up with a logical reason as to why everything on your internal (and external!) to-do list are important.

But as you and I both know, not everything can be a priority all the time. And trying to do everything puts us more in energy debt, bringing us further into Burnout.

So what do we do?
Ask. For. Help. Prioritizing.

Maybe it's a partner, maybe it's a manager, maybe it's a parent or a friend or a mentor or a coach or a member of your medical team (👋). Whoever it is, brain dump everything and have them help you organize it and prioritize it.

This minimizes the energy it takes to get started and creates some momentum. Does it work perfectly? No. Does it help? Yes.

Little by little, friends. Little by little.
I often talk about the fact that Collaborative Hea I often talk about the fact that Collaborative Healthcare is very similar to designing a well functioning Board of Governors. You figure out your needs and areas of weakness and then bring people in who can support that with their knowledge. A great Board, and team, has a variety of skill sets that, working together, help you thrive (not just survive)

You, as a human being, might require different care and support and knowledge than your partner, your neighbour, your friend or your coworker. A huge component of increasing your health literacy is knowing who's skill set you need when. And then figuring out how to access that. Many questions are required in this work.

I'm a *little* biased, but I truly believe that naturopathic doctors are an integral part of your Board of Governors. And let's be honest, designing wellness strategies is literally one of my favourite parts or my job.

This beautiful piece is the work of @loveletterlifestyle for @saltwirenetwork and I'm thrilled to be quoted in it alongside @dr.erinw.nd and @dr.audreygrady . I also appreciate the beautiful shoutout of our work on Burnout and The Superwoman Code (our podcast!). I am so appreciative.

Link to read is in my stories
This is Burnout in four words. It's a slide I mak This is Burnout in four words.

It's a slide I make sure to include into every single presentation I give (like this one from @trurobuzz 's Set For Success Summit in March) and it is my favourite one to land on. It brings the best response.

I can't wait to bring the burnout knowledge, the carbs and the laughter for presentations for Alliance Dental, the NSGEU and the New Brunswick Teachers Association (@nbteachersassn ) over the next two weeks.

It's time to Break The Burnout Cycle and Find a Path to Sustainable Success.

I told you carbs were important 🤣
